Episode 018: Stepping into Who You Are
With Debbie Koske
Finding our purpose is not about going on a journey outside of yourself to "find" what you're supposed to be doing. More often than not, it is an experience of fully stepping into who you truly are.
On this episode, I speak with Reiki Master Teacher and Wedding Officiant Debbie Koske about trusting the Universe and opening yourself up for being a channel for the Divine. We also explore the themes of trust, empathy, energy work, and embodiment on the spiritual path.

Guided, um, and Really, she's guided to do all kinds of things by accepting and tapping into her gifts, her talents, her passions, she aims to make a difference in the lives of others and be a source of light, joy, and inspiration
Track 1: for the world. She most certainly is. I am so excited to share this time with you today. Welcome, Debbie.
Debbie: Thank you. I'm looking Forward to our conversation.
Track 1: Likewise. Now we have had so many conversations about our journeys, about our path, about trusting the unfolding, about, oh my God, you and I have had hours and hours and hours.
Long conversation today will not be like
that, but we'll share some of, um, that magic we'll say with, um, the audience. So I'm really excited to have you. So
we'll [00:03:00] start
as I do with every guest, and I ask the question, what marked the beginning of your journey of your spiritual
awakening?
Debbie: Yeah. This is a really interesting one because I don't think I had a marked beginning. I think that I chose this. To be here. And my spiritual journey really began as I was born. Um, I had, if I think about it, it made me like look back at my history of. X number of years behind me, um, , and I think that people used to say, whenever I would talk about how I'm doing reiki in my family, I was never really connected to my older siblings or my older cousins and grandmother and all of that because there's a wide gap in years.
They would say, my grandmother had the gift and that is exactly how they'd say it. And I would be like, well, what was that gift? ? And no one could really ever [00:04:00] interpret what that was. And my mother was connected with spirit. She could see spirits and it made her fearful. And so I think that whole. That whole generation and beyond, they were afraid of what they were capable of.
So knowing that kind of was always there, I was always exposed as a child to people talking about Eckhart, people doing powwows, people doing spiritual things around me always. And it made me, that question made me look back to even simple things like. I always trusted my gut, even though I didn't realize I was trusting my gut when everyone was giving their children fluoride tablets.
And I said, no, I just don't want to. I felt like a terrible mother for not following along as everybody did, but I felt like that wasn't what they needed in their bodies and I wanted to go holistic and more natural with things for them. And I think [00:05:00] my, my brother died when I was in my twenties. And his partner at that time gave me a book called Our Town.
I don't know if you've ever heard of it.
Track 1: I haven't.
Debbie: It's a book when you pass, how you are up above looking down, and we are acting out a play. and you know, so I think all the things in my world were like that. They were kind of guiding me gently, slowly to where I am now. I think it kind of made a more pronounced turn my journey when in my previous lifetime of work as a director of donor services, I did the strengths finder test.
Track 1: Mm-Hmm.
Debbie: And I remember being so mad, I wouldn't even talk with anyone about what my four cop strengths were because they were empathy, they were positivity, they were harmony and [00:06:00] developer. And I was like, that's not learned, that's not strategic. Like what does that even mean in this business? Right? I was so upset and I couldn't internalize that and realize those are true gifts that most people in leadership roles, they don't have that skillset.
Right. Instead of looking at as asset, I looked at it as a detriment to me that I couldn't progress further in my role. And then a couple years later they did a, it was called up leader. It was, um, unlocking potential. And in that I once again found out that, and I don't know if you have ever heard of Carly Fiorina.
She actually,
so she ran in the very beginning of the, um, presidential election time period of 2016. She was in the running, but kind of faded out into the background. But she is this dynamic woman and I had the opportunity to work with her for two full days and she just drew out [00:07:00] so much from me that, and made, and I actually, after we took a test.
Empathy came up once again, surprise. And I realized that's an asset that's, that's, that makes me unique, that makes me different than other leaders. I have the ability to come down and speak to you and determine, you know, what can you do for us? Not this is what you will do. So I took on a different type of leadership role at that time, and then I think that.
Life events just kept turning me and turning me, and one day when I finally left that role, I literally stepped into who I am right now.
Track 1: Hmm. Which we're gonna get into the whole leaving a job and that sort of thing. But I do wanna ask the question. Uh. How do you understand empathy? So for those listening, you may hear, [00:08:00] and sometimes in spiritual circles like, oh, I'm empathetic, I'm empath, I have empathy. Or you're an empath, you feel all this stuff. How do you understand empathy? And perhaps even more importantly, how do you relate to
it? AKA, manage it, understand it? What have you learned about
this? I'm gonna call it a gift, um, although some people listening may not think it's a gift at all.
Debbie: We think we as an empath, I I've all my life, so as a child I quickly learned.
I was always taught to hush and keep quiet and not talk and not be seen, and I quickly learned to just take on the emotions of the space, right? Assess where do I need to be and who needs me, and who needs my energy, and how do I fix situations. I learned that very quickly and I think I developed it further through the years of just, you know, feeling my Clair Sentient was very strong for me and I.[00:09:00]
Felt into people's energy, and I took it on and I didn't know that I was doing that. Sometimes you can walk away from a situation feeling good and then you walk away and you have taken on that person's energy. So as an empath, you have to protect yourself, and you also have to be aware of where your vibration is in their vibration and really work to elevate theirs versus coming down to their level and just being in that space that's not necessarily so good with them.
Track 1: Yeah, so just because you have the ability
to feel sense, whatever another person is moving through, does not mean you have to necessarily take it on as your own. I also am highly empathetic and extremely sensitive. Um, I feel people's emotions all the time. I feel physically in my body when people are ill around me or are having issues. It is interesting traveling on airplanes and being in close [00:10:00] proximity to other human beings, um, because I'm so tapped in and quite empathetic, but I've learned that boundaries are key, uh, because with that, you know, this is where I begin. And, and, and this is where you are and I can hold space for your experience, but I do love this idea of being in your own, perhaps higher vibration to elevate and to support and to stay in your own space rather than needing to take on everything
for somebody else.
And I think for empaths, this is a
really challenging lesson. Um, the boundaries are
key.
Debbie: Definitely boundaries, healthy boundaries are very key.
Track 1: Yeah. Not like 10 foot walls around your heart, but
Debbie: Yeah. Because that's, I mean, as an empath, my role I believe is
to help people through situations. And my history in my past years [00:11:00] has allowed me to understand on a deeper level what someone may be going through. And even if it's not the exact same situation. I can dig deep enough into those emotions to share with them how I felt and what I know.
So yeah, getting onto that empathic level.
Track 1: So there came a time, and I know this part of your
journey pretty well, so you can share what you wanna share. And I know this because, um, we've had many conversations around this, you and I both. But there came a time where you left that job or felt that that was an important, um. Choice for you and you decided to do something else, and if something else maybe was uncertain to you, I'm really would love for you to share a little bit about this part of your path, what you've
learned and discovered about the way in which you move through the world, because of it.
Debbie: So you made me really
take a look.
At where [00:12:00] I'm at right now and where I was right around pre Covid time. I've always said the way leadership is in my organization is just not, it's not flowing with me. I don't like it. I need to leave. I worked there 25 years. I. I don't think that, I don't think that anything they did would've made me really truly leave because the mission of what I did at that organization resonated with me.
I was in donor services that that filled my soul. Interestingly, I kept looking back to try and answer this question, and I think that it was the relationship that I was in that ended. Which at that time in my life, I had been looking for every, I would be saying, this is happening, and I feel this, and they'd be like, oh, you're always talking about feeling things.
It, it's all in your head. You're right. I was al I was always looking for validation. I was always trying to look elsewhere for that validation. I, I, this [00:13:00] is a strange behavior, don't you think? No. Stop thinking over it. You're overthinking. Just let it go, mom. Just let it go. Let it go, Deb. Let just let it go.
Then when I finally ended that relationship, it took about six months for the truths to come out. But when they came out, it was like a domino effect for me. I was watching all those things that I felt coming to fruition. I knew what I knew, and at that point, it was right around the time when I left my job, but I, it was almost like I stepped into my skin that I chose to be in.
This Earth school, I finally was like, I don't need validation from you. I know what I know. I feel what I feel, and it's real all my life. I was told not to pay attention to that. So when I started looking at what was happening in that relationship, [00:14:00] I knew, but I wouldn't, I wouldn't let myself tap into that because everyone was saying, let it go.
When I found out and I stepped into it, I was, I became who I'm supposed to be. I trusted myself. I trusted my intuition. I trusted, I had been doing reiki a little bit prior to, and I, I had been, you know, when you start doing reiki, you start developing your clares, they all start coming in. Some of them come in, you know, you, you have a variety, and they were getting pretty sharp, but I wasn't trusting them.
It was like click. It all went into place when that happened and I, I stopped needing validation from others. The human in me still looks for it once in a while, but, but I finally, I finally knew who I was.
Track 1: Hmm. And so you left the job and you're like, now
what am I gonna do?
Debbie: Well, so yeah, so [00:15:00] I was, I was in these, these, you know, my mind was going all over the place and I kept thinking, I love doing reiki, but I can't do it full time. What am I gonna do? And I finally got, because I had learned, trust your intuition. Trust your gut, trust those feelings. In the middle of a meeting, I said, I need help.
It's Covid, we are. Really having a hard time here. I need extra hands. And it was dead silent and I was like, oh, I get it. And I said Afterwards, we'll talk after offline to my supervisor. And I thought when I was doing the up leader. She had talked, I afterwards you get a coach and the coach had actually talked to me about, you know, trying to develop my leadership skills and do different things and I would say, this is what I'm doing, this is what I'm doing.
She finally started telling me to work on my resume [00:16:00] or my resignation, and so. When that moment it's, it was like a, another light bulb, right? The light bulb went off. At that meeting, I realized that no one validated what I was doing. No one respected what I was doing for them, and I didn't have to go crazy working 60 hours for that.
So I gave my resignation, and as the words were coming out of my mouth, I was like, oh. I'm saying them out loud, . This was just an exercise she gave me and I'm saying that out loud. This, this is becoming real. What? What? I don't have a plan. And that's what had to happen because in my mind, I planned everything and I needed no plan.
I needed to be at the bottom to start with a clean slate. So I left the job not knowing what I was gonna do. I was working with a spiritual advisor at that time. She. She helped [00:17:00] me develop a lot of my skillset for business on my own. Um, but most of the time there would be days when I wouldn't have a client and I, my day would just fly by and I'd be like, what?
I don't know what I did all day, but it felt really damn good, in the moment. And at the same time as all of this was happening, I actually. My daughter had a a, a grand, I have a granddaughter now. So being a grandmother was, it was like all the timing happened at the perfect, perfect time. I recognized that being in the moment was what they were forcing me to do.
My two grandchildren, they. You need me to be in the moment all the time with them. It's different than raising your own children and being in the moment all the time is just like meditation, right? It brings you right into [00:18:00] where you are, what you're doing, and everything takes on a different value.
Track 1: Yeah. Yeah. There were so many conversations that you and I have had about living in the moment, about being fully present, uh, and the whole like, oh, I'm jumping and leaving my seemingly secure job, and I know that this is my path, but I don't know how the heck this is going to unfold. And learning to really trust and flow and know that you're supported and where the hell is my money coming from?
And all of these, we've had many, many, many conversations about this. So I would like, um, to just sort of share and reflect. I know we've been mirrors for each other quite a bit. Um, but how do you know? When you're in alignment with your higher self, how do you know what that feels like? You're saying, oh, I have this intuition, I have these knowings. Um, you occur to me as someone who, like myself, [00:19:00] flows with what's being presented and, um, really trusts your journey. But how, what is this
experience for you? How do you know and how have you developed this sort of relationship
with your higher self over
time?
Debbie: So I think that Reiki kind of catapulted me into this. When you are practicing reiki, you have to do like a clearing, a cleansing, an ego, step aside, all of that stuff. And when I do that, I feel different. I trust, I, I believe that spirit is guiding me. I ask for spirit to work with me and through me and guide me.
Um, I, I. I put my ego aside, I put my fears aside and I really work in that realm of love because that's what I'm doing because it, it sparks joy in [00:20:00] my heart to work one-on-one with a client and actually see them. Acknowledge themselves and honor themselves and release the energies we've learned to store up in our bodies.
Right. So I think it just, I, when I am with a client and I'm having this, I, everyone does reiki in a little bit different way, right? I tend to do a lot of talking in my Reiki sessions with them. I like to get into the emotional levels and I think that. I know when I'm, when I am in my element, because it's almost like I'm watching.
The conversation take place because I know Spirit is working through me. It's not my words. I can tell the difference between my own words, when my ego gets in the way versus when Spirit is, is guiding me, and Spirit brings the right people to me, right. Situations that I [00:21:00] can speak to personally, professionally, I can.
It it's, it just flows. I feel that.
Track 1: There's a lot of resonance for me and what you're saying because when I do my work, um, obviously, well really all of it, but the QHHT for sure, 'cause I'm fully being guided by another person's higher self. But when I'm doing astrology readings with people too, and even my coaching sessions, there is this
same sense for me
because I have the intent of being used as a. Tool for the Divine right? As a channel for the Divine Source Spirit Um, I do have this openness in this sense that I'm not the one I, my ego is not the one really speaking here. I say stuff out of my mouth sometimes when I'm like,
what the hell? And like, wow, holy shit, that was really good. Or I say something out of nowhere that impacts someone [00:22:00] that.
Debbie: Yes.
Track 1: You know, shifts an idea in their mind or has them cry or, or whatever the case may be. And that state of being is really quite beautiful. And I realize in reflecting now, it takes quite a bit to learn to just be, because there's so much conditioning in our world that has us thinking all the time in our ego minds and trying to figure stuff out when. In reality, when we learn to just be and flow and allow, even in this moment, I'm not really listening to myself. I'm kind of, don't know what I'm saying, but I'm hoping that it's resonating for somebody out there who's listening, um. Yeah, it happens all the time in my work. It's like my clients will ask me, Hey, remember when you said this and you're reading?
I'm like, no,
I don't because I really wasn't listening to myself and also my memory is not
that great.
Debbie: I feel happens all the, and clients will say, when you told me to do this, I went and did it, and this I don't.[00:23:00]
I feel like if I remember what I told you last time, my ego will step in and I'll build on that and I'll have a story created and your energy is different every single day. So I try to let that stuff go and it does just flow when you do that.
Track 1: Yeah.
Debbie: Yeah.
Track 1: Um, so Reiki obviously was really important to you in your journey.
What other spiritual tools, modalities things have you been also important for you in discovering more
about yourself?
Debbie: So I learned, um,
I did a little bit of acupressure
was a kind of strange course that I took, but I learned that what I was already doing in reiki, I was already, I. Guiding myself, allowing myself to be guided, I should say, to the right hand positions where you're actually hitting pressure points where it actually helps relieve some of the pressures for people.[00:24:00]
Some of the tensions, it works on meridian lines, and I kind of enhance that a little bit, so I bring that into it. I work with crystals. I, um, I call in angels all the time in my sessions because I believe in the, their essence. It just feels so good. Um, I, I do a lot of different types of, I, I, you pull Oracle cards afterwards and they always confirm whatever conversation we've had, so I love, I love that spirit works in that way as well.
Track 1: Totally.
my experience of, I mean, I know you do EFT, so tapping and, you know, we've had astrology conversations and things. I think, uh, the question I kind of want to get to my experience of you in your work has always been rather intuitive. Um. And so I'm wondering, as all these things sort of opened up and as you're saying yes to the universe, I don't know how I'm gonna be paid.
I don't know how this work looks like. [00:25:00] I don't really know, but yes, yes, yes. All the time. Done a lot of trust falling. Um, is it more of, or can you describe this experience of what it means to really trust yourself and just go with your intuitive guide? Because for me, astrology was like that. I, I, You know, I had this experience that just opened up everything for me with astrology. But then it wasn't really like learning something new. It was just like, I know what I'm doing, like kind of riding a bike. I don't know why. I know what I'm doing. I am totally second guessing myself because I feel like imposter syndrome left and right, but for some reason
I just kind of know. So I'm just gonna keep going with it and see what happens.
So was that a similar experience
for you?
Debbie: It was, I, I think that I had imposter syndrome often we've talked about that Um, but I think it's because I was always leading with fear. [00:26:00] I was always told to quiet myself, right? I was always told to compartmentalize and box it up and put it away and don't talk. And, and now I'm supposed to be because I'm a Gemini moon.
So I'm trying to step into that Gemini moon that everyone tells me to appreciate and, and honor. And I think just trusting, uh, anything that comes my way. I have to lead with love in order to trust that the universe when I, even my most difficult, and I had a really bad day, and I almost called you to say, I don't, I, I don't think I can mentally do this, but I did what I always do.
I meditated. I sat with my candles and my crystals and my surroundings, and I brought myself into the moment and I realized that even on the toughest days. I trusted that I'm being brought this situation for a reason. So [00:27:00] if I could take myself out of it and really just observe what's going on and not feel all those feelings from years ago that might not have, you know, been shook out of my body, um, I, I could get through it.
I, I could mentally change my mindset. And not allow it to take over my mind, body, spirit like it used to, because I into my heart and that was really hard for me today. Today was a tough experience, but knowing that leading with love and putting fear aside and, and the ego and all of that stuff, if you lead with love and you trust it, they just kind of go together, right?
In my mind.
Track 1: Yeah, and I think what you're speaking to is, you know, kind of what I refer to as living in alignment, right? Living in alignment with your higher self. We live, look, we have three D lives. We have stuff to do. [00:28:00] You've got grandkids to take care of. You've got you know, tasks to do. I have to go buy groceries, I have to go travel the world, whatever, These are all sort of three D things. And when you get on an airplane, you know, somebody triggers you or you're in line somewhere and you're frustrated. These things happen, but. When you become aware of the true essence that you are, that is an infinite being of love inside of a body. And you know this viscerally not just in your head, right through your meditation practices, through your connection with your higher self. You know when you have these days, when you're living in the world, when you're living in that three D space. 'cause guess what? We're human. You have choice because you have awareness, right? So sometimes it's like, oh my god, I, so I've been traveling a lot and so there's plenty of catalysts for getting irritated in airports, right? And I could be sitting next to someone who's, you know, [00:29:00] doing something that's irritating me and triggering me. And I can see that as this irritant and I can get annoyed and angry and whatever. But I know enough to know that, oh, wait a second. Watch this. That's my ego.
That's, that's an aspect of me here that's not healed, that's triggered by something.
But I can observe this and I can choose something else. I can choose to step into love. I can choose to, uh, well validate my own experience and then make it okay, and then just be in it and choose something else, and that. Ultimately what it, I think it means to live in alignment with your higher self. I know what it feels like to be aligned.
It feels great, easeful flow,
nothing, no stress, . Right? But I'm not always
experiencing that, but I can always
get to it
with intention.
Debbie: Yeah. When you have that acceptance of a situation
and the knowledge [00:30:00]
that you. can shift your thought process.
Track 1: Yeah. And most people on this planet don't realize that they, they can, right? They don't realize that actually you're always directing the energy from within yourself.
So your thoughts and beliefs are constantly creating a vibration, a frequency that's being sent out. It's not being created by what's external. It's actually happening from within you, and because of that, you get to create all the time how you want to experience your life. Things may happen in the external, but your response to it. Will always create what's next, Right? And yet most people don't realize that. And so they sort of live in a space of victimhood, uh, of their realities. And the truth is to know that you are a creator, being to know that you are a divine. Gift of source inside of a
body is to know that, hmm, you actually have a [00:31:00] lot of control over how you experience your life.
It's entirely up to you,
Debbie: Yeah.
Track 1: Yeah. Um. I know that along the way, trusting those messages can be sort of challenging. Of course. Um, can you describe a time, so we're talking about alignment with higher self here. Can you describe a time where you felt
truly connected with your higher
self? Or even, how do you know when you're connected and when you're not?
Debbie: I think that I truly felt once that whole situation with the relationship happened, . And then I had the validation. I literally felt like I stepped into a different person. And I, I think because I feel so much, my clear sentient is so strong, I, I. Felt like a different person. It was like someone put the light switch on or like I was looking at the sky all the time from down [00:32:00] on the first floor and I went up to the 20th floor and there's all windows and I looked out and it was just the same sky but magnificent out there.
Right? I just felt different. I feel when I'm in alignment, I feel More attuned to everything around me. I don't let things rock me so much because I am bringing everything in right, and I'm not, I'm not affected by the the simple things that happen. When I start letting those little things happen, I know I need to do some looking inward.
I need to bring it back into me.
Track 1: remember when, um. I mean, I've always been on a very spiritual journey my entire life, but I remember a moment of awakening for me where, um, I felt completely aligned with my higher self, but I felt a visceral [00:33:00] leaving my body and returning to it almost like my soul literally left and then boom, jumped back in. And then subsequently this, as you're describing this, knowing of myself as all that is knowing that I am part of the tree and this person next to me and this food on the table in front of me is actually all connected. And look, not everybody listening. They're like, oh, that's nice for you. You've had that experience.
And it's like, okay, maybe you haven't had an experience quite like that, but. You can have experiences where you feel ease and joy and bliss and just connection. And really what's required is just removing all that other stuff, the mind out of the way, all of the worries and the problems and the issues and the complaining and the blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
The worrying about the future and the fears, um, because what's underneath that?
[00:34:00] Is this all pervasive
presence, this essence, and that's what we truly are.
Debbie: Yeah. I think that I didn't have like that visceral kind of thing because I feel like I was always living
outside myself and I finally stepped in to who I am. It was like, it was just, it was the, it was a significant difference and I was like, oh, this is me. I'm okay with that. . Yeah.
Track 1: I love this though, stepping into who you are, because actually most people on the planet are quite
disembodied. We are thinking about the stuff we gotta do. We're playing our video games. We're on the internet all the time. I don't play video games, by the way. I think they're boring. Annoying but nonetheless, we're on the internet.
We're thinking about this. We do all these
things where we're really kind of, and even people, by the way, on a spiritual journey, they meditate like crazy. They do plant medicines. They're all out of the body, [00:35:00] and they're all sort of like not physically present. But the truth is, in order to be well, in order to ascend, in order to know ourselves more deeply, in order to understand this experience, we have to be in the body. If we wanna, if we wanna develop our Claire audiences, our Clair sentience, all of these gifts spiritually, if we want to raise our frequency and ascend and experience, um, you know, higher states of consciousness, they happen in the body. This whole thing, everything happens in the body. Why? Because we are living in a physical reality where we souls come into the body and where I think there is this. Belief that spiritual growth and ascension is, is trying to like reach outside of yourself all the time and find bliss and oneness in God union and all this. Okay, fine. But that actually happens within the paradox is it's not outside of you. It's right inside God source, [00:36:00] universe. It is inside of you. And so you're talking about for you coming into your body. That actually was your work. It was mine too. 'cause much of my life and my journey was very not physically focused, but it was when things started to really shift on my spiritual journey where it was like, oh. This is what it means to feel more grounded and embodied. And now
that I'm more in my body, it's like, oh, I feel this tingle on my head.
I know what that means. I feel this sensation
on my arm. The
goosebumps.
Debbie: Confirmation. I
Track 1: I feel this. Right? I feel this.
Um, whatever it might be in the body, the sensitivities are greater, but why? Because I'm in the body and most people in the world are not in their bodies.
And so
coming into the body and recognizing that the journey is happening inside of you is, I mean, it's
everything.
Debbie: It is. [00:37:00] It has been for me.
Track 1: yeah, same. Um, so do you think that you're living your purpose?
Debbie: I, I feel like living our purpose means we came here for a reason. We signed up for a reason. I always say this to people, you should dive into astrology just a little bit. Get those top threes, even if that's all you do. Really, sun, moon, and your rising, because it will remind you. Why you're here and honor that.
Because we can sometimes, because we're a Gemini and our, you know, we're talking all the time, we're chatty, we can start putting negative connotations to that. And really that is an asset for some role that you're living in, right? So I feel like we are always evolving, always learning, and anytime things happen.
That don't feel like they're our sole purpose. They're kind of like those, either they're like little tests or they're, they're learning opportunities [00:38:00] so that we can do that course correct and lean in and lead with love and just be where we're supposed to be and accept. I think acceptance is really huge to realize that spirit.
Even though it feels hard sometimes, spirit gives us what we need to take it to the next level, and we're always learning and we're always improving. We're always on road to journey, right? So our sole purpose is always ever evolving.
Track 1: it definitely is always evolving and it's definitely a path. I do think that there are times in life where people can be Misaligned from their highest path would be a way of saying that, right? So, and one way of saying is that not really living your purpose or feeling very disconnected from it, but, and that's possible.
You feel it. Life's not working the right way. This is happening. That is happening, but. What we might [00:39:00] deem as negative as you are saying, is actually catalyst for us to get back on track And if they actually, if we realized that, you know, sometimes the breakup or the divorce or the getting fired or the tragedy that we experienced or whatever is
actually part of our
catalyst,
um, we would realize that actually this path is always
unfolding.
Debbie: Yeah.
Track 1: Yeah.
Debbie: I firmly believe that. I don't think that my sessions would go the way they do if I didn't experience
some level what my clients experienced. So that I, if I can't understand that pain, I don't know that I could talk about it and help them through some of those situations, right? So I think that the difficult times lead us to the good times and help us to recognize good versus hard.
Track 1: Yeah. I mean, I even realize it in my own path, but I see it all the time with my clients. [00:40:00] It's like what you go through as you think are challenges, is there hardships in your life? Prepare you to be of service. Been that exact same thing for somebody else, right? So for me, the experiences of dealing with one's identity and one's sexual identity and, um, the experience in the church and frankly moving through self-hatred and, um, all these sorts of things make me very capable of serving people, moving through the exact same things. It's why, you know, the former drug, the drug addict becomes. A sponsor for someone or why somebody who, you know, was in an accident supports and creates a nonprofit for people in the same thing. It's like our journeys do prepare us to serve if we want to, to serve in the ways
in which we experienced, you know?
Um, [00:41:00]
yeah, and I think that's really
powerful
Debbie: And the key is if you want to right fate versus free will. Right?
Track 1: Yeah, so free will. And so fundamentally, you know, free will exists. We live in a free will universe. So it is our choice always. You spoke about,
um,
you know, the astrology and understanding one's astrology chart. Of course. I think that's a wonderful thing
to do.
I happen to know a very
good
astrologer.
Debbie: say that
Track 1: Y'all listening? That would be
me
Debbie: very, very
Track 1: anyway. Anyway,
um,
where was I going with that thread? Oh my God. That's what happens when the ego gets
involved.
Y'all ?
Debbie: Right? Yes.
Track 1: Um, I was talking about something
Debbie: How important it is to know your astrology.
Track 1: Yeah, well that's an important component, but there was something else I [00:42:00] was gonna say and I guess that's why this lost. So, aside from maybe the
ego, 'cause that's what I'm gonna say here. What are the things that get in the way of living your purpose, uh, either
your purpose or others?
Debbie: Uh, well, definitely the ego, but I think fear.
And that kind of is, you know, your ego
getting in the way. Fear. Um, I think if you don't have trust, when I start thinking I can control this area, I got this, I'm gonna, I'm in charge. I can maintain, I can dictate, I can take the path the way I want and make it the way I want, that's when I start stumbling all over the place.
And when I open up and say . Spirit, this is what I need. It comes in bigger and better always when I step out of the way and let go of the control.
Track 1: Yeah. Controls the mechanism of the ego, right, of one aspect of our mind. It is not the higher [00:43:00] mind, it is the conscious ego
and our egos. Well, because we live in a world that teaches us to do this, thinks, and it is a lie. It's an illusion that we can control. But the ego is not equipped to control The ego cannot figure out, um, how everything in divinity and in the universe works and how all of these pieces can come together, but your higher mind or your higher self does and your guides and your team and your angels does. And so if you can learn to realize that I'm not actually in control here, there are forces. Well beyond me necessarily. Um, I remember the thread now. It was free Will I was gonna talk about. Anyway, these forces are working alongside me and now to beautifully tie that theme back together. But it is my free will choice to either listen or not. It is my free world choice
to manifest the things that are available
to me
or choose [00:44:00] not to be in alignment
with them.
Debbie: Yeah, and I think the ego, I think it thinks that it's protecting us
but it's really not. Right. It's creating more situations for us to have to work through.
Track 1: Yeah, for sure. I knew that thread was gonna come back. Hallelujah.
free will.
Um, okay.
Final question. What do you think it means to live
with purpose?
Debbie: Uh, trust. I think acceptance, I've said it all along, I feel like
when you trust you are doing what you're supposed to be doing, life just tends to flow easier.
And when you're not living your purpose, I think we have those struggles, those day-to-day [00:45:00] pains. Um, I think trust. Yeah.
Track 1: Yeah, and trust is a, a super important and also
not the easiest thing to develop. I think it's a skill to develop like a muscle. Um. To trust is to have faith, is to know that actually everything is happening in divine order. Maybe not the way you think it is, and maybe not even how you want it to be, but knowing that you are, uh, part of this greater cosmic dance. And then I think trust can be developed by truly noticing. How things show up in life. Wow. I manifested that. Wow. This what happens when I just let go and let the universe show me. Um, I. We can start to see like, oh, I can trust and I can trust [00:46:00] myself, and I can trust my knowing. I mean, my God, the number of things that you and I have talked about in terms of me learning to trust
trust about moving to Maui, leaving my job, doing this in my business, what about this relationship I thought was gonna be a
thing?
What, you know, all of these pieces and it's like, um, the
universe is always giving us opportunities to trust in it.
But also in
ourselves.
Debbie: Yeah. And I think if, if, if we trust like with restrictions,
it's not really trusting, right? I think we gotta let it go. We gotta open up and we gotta be willing to say, I. Because if you say, you know, I want this in red on, you know, this date in this time, that's not trusting. You have to kind of like openly say, these are the things you hope to have.
And when you trust, you actually can look at the things that are going around your world [00:47:00] going on around your world, and you can see it is bigger and better than you could have imagined, but you have to let go of the thought process of. This isn't, I wanted green, not red . You know, you gotta stop with the restrictions and you gotta just openly, completely trust.
And it feels so good when you're there. But the human in us always comes into play, right? And, and can wave us and, and shake us a little bit. And we have to bring it back in all the time to stand in our sovereignty.
Track 1: Yeah, living By imposing conditions will keep us separated from our higher selves, will keep us separated from living our purpose. So
learning to live and to love without condition is how we share our essence with the world in its purest form.
Debbie: unconditional. [00:48:00]
