The Wisdom of the Wind
There is much to learn from the wind. It wasn’t until just today that I stopped to consider its power and, in some ways, began to unlock its wisdom.
I moved to the island of Maui, Hawaii in April. One of the truths about life on a volcanic rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is that you are faced with Gaia’s elements on a daily basis. If you have ever been to Maui, then you know that it can be a very windy place. Life here on the island, including our ability to even get here, is at the mercy of the trade winds blowing from the Pacific.
The wind is a powerful force. Among its abilities, it carves out landscapes, it carries pollen and living beings, it spreads pollution, and it holds the spirit of our ancestors. It is wise. If you have spent any significant time in nature, then you know this well.
It is an element that is not visible to the human eye, yet it is observed. It is known. It is felt. Yes, you can see the result of wind (trees moving, downed power lines etc.), but you cannot see the wind with your eyes. In the same way, some of the most powerful forces of our lives, we do not see.
There are many forces in our lives that are invisible, and yet, they form us. Electromagnetic energy, gravity, and even our inner psychic forces are constantly forming us. Our lives as spiritual beings are formed by so many forces unnoticed, until now.
We are living through the beginning of a massive paradigm shift. Since 2020, most of our lives have changed in very significant ways and they continue to change more and more as each day passes. As I write this article (August 2021), the energy is continuing to become more intense with each passing day. If you are reading this, you might be feeling it too. The astrologer in me knows that this energy will only intensify in the months and years to come because this time is designed to change us. These energetic changes on the planet are shifting humanity (and really all life on Gaia) into higher states of consciousness.
If you are watching the news or scrolling through social media these days, then you are seeing the result of these energetic shifts—not the energy itself. Corruption, greed, control, fear tactics…they are a reaction to the energies shifting. They are not the energies themselves. Just like the wind, there is a wisdom in all of it. All of it is serving some greater purpose. It is aligning us to who we truly are as Cosmic Beings.
Life, like the wind, is forever changing. It is forever forming. It is forever transforming. When it ceases this process, it ceases to exist. Life is change.
So as the winds of change blow, will you try to fight it? Will you go inside, lock your windows and hope it will go away? Come out once the storm has passed? Hope there’s something left? Or will you embrace it? Feel it? Connect with it? Learn from it? Grow with it? While the winds of change can carry doubt—and even cause us fear—they also carry wisdom, for those who are able to hear it.
We are formed and shaped by the elements. In its subtle expression, the wind carries wisdom for all of humanity. It would be well for us to get to know it better. Yogis know well that the element of wind is expressed as the breath within your body. You can bring your attention to it at any time. You can observe its nature within the vessel of your own Being! You don’t even need to pray for a blustery day to learn about it. One of the gifts of this embodied life is that it is always flowing. It is forever changing. And if you pause enough to notice it, it too, will teach you its wisdom.
Aloha,
Cam
