Reflections for 2019 (#2): Your Path, Your Purpose

It probably is no surprise that I named my company Path & Purpose. In fact, the name came to me one night when I was climbing out of the shower. After a few weeks of stressing over a name, it came to me in a moment of inspiration. While I didn’t know at the time what would come of it, I knew that I was called to create it. I felt a sense of calm…a sense of knowing that my own purpose was somehow wrapped up in this. I was connected to the idea of sharing myself to help others on their own personal journeys.

People spend a lot of time thinking about their purpose in life. Many jump from job to job expecting to find happiness, only to wind up with a sense of loss and disconnection. Some people jump from relationship to relationship or living situation to living situation looking for an elusive sense of happiness. I know that a good portion of my late teens and twenties were devoted to thinking about my place in the world. I chased degree qualifications and work experiences to land me a quality job so that I could “make a difference” and, frankly, prove to myself my own worth. Side note, I was also actively avoiding dealing with my own sexuality, so I figured “working really hard” and “being successful” were ways I could distract attention from what was truly going on under the surface. In some ways, this served me well. In other ways, it created damage.

What I have learned is that trying to chase anything external for internal validation will only lead us to confusion and disconnection from who we really are. To my own surprise, I am just now starting to get what I am actually meant to do. I am a teacher. In every sense of the word. The more I go inward, by taking time to quietly reflect, meditate, and journal, the more I realize that the gifts I have to share are to teach others to discover what is within themselves.

It is an inherent human need to understand one’s place in the cosmos. I invite you to take time today to think about how you can honor your soul’s experience. Ask yourself: How can I share what I have to contribute to the world at large? How can I make a difference in the lives of others? Remember, the answer is within you.

Embrace your destiny. Take a risk. Share yourself. Don’t be afraid to leave your mark on the world. I know that with each passing day, I am becoming more clear about my path in this lifetime. I invite you to discover yours.

With love,
Cam
