Episode Transcript:

Nik: Find community, find other people who are going through the same thing.

And find a teacher if that, if that resonates with you.

welcome to the Path and Purpose Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Cameron Martin.

I'm a spiritual coach and self-realization teacher with a passion for the sacred work of self-discovery. I'm the founder of Path and Purpose where I help spiritually awakening humans, light workers, old souls, and conscious leaders to discover their soul's purpose.

My entire life has been a journey of deep spiritual discovery. You could call me an eternal student of the universe, and although it's tempting to buy into limiting stories about ourselves, my journey has taught me that it takes courage to embody who we truly are. I'm on this planet to empower people to discover their soul's purpose so that they can live fully aligned with their higher self and experience the life that they were meant to live [00:01:00] with.

Clarity, passion, and fulfillment. Let me ask you, are you on a journey of self-discovery and know that there's something deeper calling you, something more for you that's beyond where you are currently? , do you wanna know with certainty what your soul is here to do? Well, I've created this podcast to give inspiration and insights so that the path to living your soul's purpose is less of a mystery and more of a discovery.

So if you're on your spiritual journey and you're craving the true peace and bliss that is your divine nature, my intention is that you'll be inspired by today's episode.

The spiritual journey is all about coming to know ourselves more deeply. And along the way you might be attracted to many different modalities in exploring yourself. For me, [00:02:00] personally, astrology of course was one that was. Incredibly powerful for me for discovering who I am as a soul. Why I'm here.

But equally as important as my yoga practice, specifically my restorative yoga practice and my Kriya yoga practice. Now some of you might know what Kriya yoga is, but I want to share it a little bit because we talk about it quite a bit in this episode. So you might be familiar with the Kundalini or the idea of the Kundalini, and maybe you have taken a Kundalini yoga class before.

But creating yoga is slightly different. It doesn't look like an Asana. So like a regular movement class you might expect or be familiar with. Um, But Korea is really a practice of activating our Kundalini energy and clearing our energy centers. So each of the energy centers or the chakras in the body, seven of them,

The idea is that the Kundalini energy is our life force energy. It's our sexual energy. It's our creative energy sits at the base [00:03:00] of the spine in our root chakra. And we can activate, this Kundalini energy to move up through our bodies, but the Cooleemee can only go so far until it reaches a blockage of sorts of blockage that was created.

Either from trauma. An energetic blockage that maybe was emotional. Um, belief systems, subconscious, whatever these limitations that are actually stored within our energetic bodies. So the Kundalini can move up through our spine, through the energy centers only until it reaches the blockage. Now.

We can actually take a practice like Korea and move that energy intentionally through the energy centers. And as we do that, as they activate. Um, we start to embody more of that energy. So for example, when the Kundalini reaches the heart chakra, then we're experiencing more, um, joy and bliss, connectedness, unity, love.

In our lives. And so my guest today speaks about [00:04:00] his practice of Kriya yoga. Um, but I've noticed for myself and my practice over the years of Korea, a lot of changes in my energy body, but also my physical body as I do this practice and it clear away karmas and clear away blockages. Now the term Korea comes from the description or talks about the actual blockage, like, um, gets released.

When we're experiencing a Korea,, it can be pretty intense. You might feel physical sensations in the body. You might not feel super great mentally. You might be dealing with,, weird emotions, whatever, cause whatever is coming up is to be purged, to be released from the body. And so more to come about the Kriya practice, but this is one practice that could be potentially very powerful if it calls to you another practice, for spiritual discovery is commuting with plant medicines.

And so you're hearing a lot about this now inside of spiritual [00:05:00] communities, but commuting with medicines like psilocybin or Iowasca. Um, or microdosing and mushrooms, things like this, and these are all gateways and opportunities to experience different levels of consciousness. But I do want to warn or perhaps suggest.

But if you feel called to commune with any of these sorts of medicines that you consider the why behind it, are you looking to escape? Or is your intention to really connect with deeper aspects of you. And if you haven't done any sort of integration work in the past or healing work in the past, this kind of stuff could be, um, pretty jarring to your psyche. So I would suggest. , really considering that or being careful, I personally have not been called to commune with plant medicines yet. It's not to say that I won't. But I haven't. And, uh, again, I wouldn't shun that. Of course it's super powerful for lots of people on their journey, but I would recommend that you only do that if you're feeling really called to it.

I guess [00:06:00] today we'll share some of his experiences with plant medicines as well. But ultimately living our purpose. Comes down to understanding and honoring our passions at a soul level. What we are interested in, what we are passionate about, what drives us. It doesn't just come from programming in this lifetime.. It comes from a deepest soul level. And so ultimately if we're following our passions, we'll be on the road to discovering our purpose.

Cameron: And on today's episode, welcome to Nick Ola. . Nick is a musician and a spiritual seeker. Him and I have connected, actually through a community, a spiritual community online. And now we're part of two communities together.

Yes. So, , very excited to have him with me today. So Nick, welcome. Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here. Yeah. I'm excited to have you. , I'm curious to know what marked the beginning of your spiritual journey or even your [00:07:00] spiritual awakening.

Nik: . Um, I know my, my beginning actually coincidentally, started in, in 2012. Um, but. A little preface like earlier on in my life, I do have some memories of when I was little, laying down in bed in like theta state most likely.

Um, and just reaching states of meditation, like deeper states, some things that I, I wouldn't feel again until within the last two years of actually developing meditation practice. Um, but in 2012, I was recommended a, a book. Uh, by Eckhart Tole called A New Earth. Oh my God. Of course. Yeah. So that was, that was my first like real, like foray into the spiritual world.

And I remember sitting on the couch reading the book and just finishing one paragraph and just like closing the book slowly and peering out the window and just having, [00:08:00] just like integrating it, just like, oh my gosh, I understand what he's saying, like, and. It was the first time I had read anybody that had taken, um, who had spoken about Jesus and Buddha and different spiritual practices and brought them together to unify those messages.

And it blew my mind cuz I, I grew up in, uh, in, in a Catholic upbringing. I went to an all boy Jesuit middle school and high school. So seven years and I. Really felt like indoctrinated into the religion, but really missed a lot of the spiritual aspects. And so to hear Jesus's words brought, brought up in, in the, the framework of unity and forgiveness and unconditional love was just like resonating big time.

It was. So, I, I would say that's when my spiritual awakening. Or my spiritual journey first happened, cuz after I read that book, I was just meditating all the time and I [00:09:00] loved it. And then I kind of fell off. And then in 2021, that's when like the real boom happened, where I felt it, I was in a dark night of the soul for, for years.

And then, um, cycles of depression and anxiety and ayahuasca ceremony came to me as a, as a response to a prayer. And between ayahuasca and psilocybin, I, I had a, a huge awakening, definitely Kundalini awakening, um, before I even knew what that was, and glimpses of enlightenment. And so that was, that's that just that changed the course of my whole life.

Yeah. Sounds like it started with that book. Interesting. Um, in 2012 was also an important component in my journey. Mm-hmm. But it was the power of now versed for me. Mm-hmm. I do suggest for anyone who's listening that a new Earth might be the easier first book. [00:10:00] Yeah. Felt like, um, there were a lot of, um, a lot of like practical ways and like examples.

Of like bringing stillness and presence in into your life, and the power of now was very much, it almost felt more academic like teaching you about the concepts if, if I remember correctly. Mm-hmm. I remember the power of now is a very, like, crunch. Uh, I don't wanna say crunchy, but like really, really was mind bending.

And I know for some people they read it. They're like, this doesn't make any sense to me if you are not ready for it. Yeah. Which is fine. Um, I'm really curious though, so you mentioned, uh, Kundalini awakening, which for our listeners, how do you understand the Kundalini Yes. And even your experience? That is a great question.

Um, I've read about Kundalini through many avenues. Um, first heard of it through MDOs and then studied it through Hinduism, Kundalini Yoga and Crea Yoga.

I have a couple books [00:11:00] on the Kundalini Awakening and the biology behind it, which is so fantastic. I think, uh, Yana Dixon, that book has really, like, really helped, um, and Kundalini to, to demystify it. Cause I know a lot of people hear the word and they're like, oh, it's just, you know, some myth, something that's going on.

But it's, it's reflected in, in all three levels, mind, body, and spirit. Um, and there's this, there's this energy coil at the base of our spine that rises up little by little through the inner work that we do going through the chakras. But depending on where our blockages are, it will bring up these distortions in life as catalysts and challenges, whether it's physical symptoms and sicknesses that we might think, oh, I just got another cold, and just kind of write it off.

, um, confrontations with people in life. Scarcity mindset issues coming up. Whatever it is, wherever you have your blockages, those things will come up [00:12:00] to be healed and to be burned, burned away. And the essential end goal is the Kundalini energy goes to the, I believe I've heard Third Eye and I've heard Crown.

Um, but at least if it gets to the third eye, um, You're essentially your being, your consciousness is upgraded into a permanent remembrance of who you actually are at all times.

And it's just a cleaning and upgrading beyond that to recognize that we are one with the universe, that we are spirit and not this body, this video game character, this monopoly chess piece that we think we are. Yeah, totally. And for some they might, uh, understand what you just expressed to them, as a moment of enlightenment.

Right? The thing that, uh, the gurus might speak about seeking enlightenment , [00:13:00] enlightenment, Christ consciousness, Buddha consciousness. All these things are referring to the same thing. To my knowledge. So, so for you on your spiritual path, I mean definitely sound like books were important.

Yeah. Certain spiritual teachers coming into your life were important. Yes. And even plant medicines, um, it's a lot of teachers. So really what, who are also teachers. Yeah. So what techniques and modalities and things have really been the most impactful for you on your journey?

Ayahuasca ceremony because of its sacred container. And I'm blessed to have been brought to a really, really good community that serves that medicine. Um, that for me was one of the best modalities. It is really intense and sometimes has proven to be some of the most difficult things I've experienced in my life, in this life.

Um, so it's obviously not for everyone. Um, Psilocybin mushrooms has been a beautiful modality. And not just sitting with [00:14:00] like large doses, but also working with micro doses, setting intentions and saying a prayer, uh, taking the microdose sitting down to meditate and do breath work. And then my intention would usually be, you know, whatever it is that I'm working on to better myself.

And I'll get a little mood boost, a little more energy, a little bit more clarity on those things. And over time I'll notice, oh, I've changed. There's something different here. Um, now non plant medicine modalities, meditation every single day to the best of my abilities, or some days I miss. Um, that brings me to another modality, forgiveness and compassion and having that with yourself.

When you miss those meditation days, it's all about your energetics, your state of being, and it's, it's just so wonderful. It's so wonderful. Um, let's see. Breath work, crea yoga.

Ecstatic dance. Mm learn. Uh, [00:15:00] just moving my body, just moving my body in fun ways where I normally would just dance in my, in my bathroom or in my bedroom with, with music going and just, . I felt free to be able to dance that way. Because everybody else was, and it was like this.

So like the, the greater modality would be like engaging community spaces where there is no judgment and the freedom to express. And those things are like really, really, really important for me. Um, I, I learned from a lot of my friends in the local Miami spiritual community about authentic relating are, are you familiar with ar.

Not that particular term. I, I have an idea of what you mean by that. I believe it comes out of, um, that particular path comes out of Colorado and, um, it's just, it's like Ramdas said, there are many paths up the mountain and they all lead to the same place. It's another path. And, you know, one of their tenants, like [00:16:00] the first thing is, uh, welcome everything.

They have like five steps, but the first one is welcome everything. And that's just allowing the present moment as it is. And that one alone has helped me so much. But they also do, um, certain exercises, um, like really going deep with other people that you don't know and like getting to a place of like real connection, uh, where I made actually some lifelong friends through there.

Um, engaging in eye contact and just holding eye contact without saying anything for a few minutes and the incredible death that you reach with that other person. Just certain exercises like that have been really, really helpful. Yeah. Hmm. I remember actually in my journey, I think it was back in 2019, I was in a, a weekend retreat.

We could call it that. It actually was more than that. But nonetheless, we had, um, we did an exercise where we just sat knees to knees with a complete stranger and just looked into each other's eyes, [00:17:00] and that was profound. In fact, that moment shifted my life in a very significant way because I remember.

The feeling of being seen, but also the truth of oneness, this connection between us. And it was maybe kind of awkward at first. I mean, so many people don't even, uh, look into each other's eyes. But I remember walking away from that particular moment.

I don't know. I think minute one and two were awkward, but like by minute five something shifted and it was like, oh wow. And then I was just present with, I guess I hadn't really thought about it this way, but like, present with God, with source, with oneness inside the another person. Um, yeah. So that was pretty profound.

Beautiful. So that's cool. So that's been an important part of your journey. Yeah. Ramdas says the eyes or the window to the soul. So maybe, maybe there's some truth in that. Hmm, I think so. I got big brown ones. I don't know what that means by my soul, but I have hazel eyes that change color every now and [00:18:00] then.

I don't know what that means either, Mr. Mutable soul, maybe chameleon soul. So, You were talking about, honestly, especially when you're mentioning the CREA stuff sometimes. Uh, well, I know that the practice of cria, the word cria actually refers to the things that you're burning out of your, the symptoms.

Yeah. So the traumas, the dramas, the energy packets, if you wanna think of it that way, that are stuck. And in the practice, these crea come up and I know that you have had more than a few. Yeah. Moments where you are actively in your spiritual work and all of a sudden shit hits the fan, or you know, things start to happen.

So can you maybe share a little bit about how, um, maybe some of these bumps for you? Or just Yeah. If that's something you've had to like work through? Yeah. Well, it's. It's funny, I remember my practice being very diligent.

Um, and I was doing that neurotropic [00:19:00] breath work the 30 minutes every morning with a fire breath, kumba hold, like all of it. It was so, so lovely. And um, then just one day some things shifted and. My mom had to go to the hospital and she was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer all over her body.

They just found that she was in pain for a while, but doctors could not find what the cause was forever. And she goes to the er, they do all the scans, they get her into emergency surgery in the next six months of, of our lives are just flipped upside down and there were so many more dark nights of the soul and.

Depression, anxiety and addictions and addictions, which I'm working with. And um, interestingly enough, I, I know this is a little bit off, off topic, but, um, my, my ego was like, no, don't smoke on camera cuz this is gonna be released online. [00:20:00] And I'm like, not full vulnerability. This is who I am right now. And, um, I'm, I'm working on it.

So there we are. Um, but yeah, some people. Some people might think that, uh oh, no, but that's an external circumstance. That's, your mom was sick for a while, and so this wouldn't be something that would be coming up with a, with your, your blockages and your distortions and like, but one of the, one of the deep belief systems that I'm working on unraveling is the belief that I'm not enough, um, and that I have to put my life on hold when, uh, a close relative is going through something.

And, um, all of that stuff came up. And it's only now, not even a year later, maybe nine months that I'm really learning, no, almost a year. Um, I'm learning because my mom has some stuff progressing now, and I'm feeling that same kind of fear. I'm learning how to continue with my life and, and push forward with [00:21:00] my, my business projects and, and still have a social life, but also being very sensitive and prioritizing her when she needs.

Anything. Um, other than that, um, I could also talk about the like inner conjunction too, if that's something that we wanna get into. Sure. What's a good way to, to talk about this? And inner conjunction is something that happens as you're doing Kundalini work, uh, Korea yoga, and. I am not an expert on this topic, but I just know that it is a sign that the work is being done and that you are progressing.

And it happened to me October or November of last year, and I was laying in bed. I was asleep and a familiar sensation of sleep paralysis came along where I opened my eyes. I was able to see the room. There was, there [00:22:00] wasn't anything visually there that that wasn't there before. Um, but instead of like trying to wake myself up from the fear of the sleep paralysis, I leaned into it.

And since I had recently had a conversation with my teacher about the inter conjunction, I was curious, Hmm, is this what, what this is? Let me, let me, let me try something. And I did a crea breath where I looked up at my third eye with my eyes closed and. Took in a breath and imagined the ball of energy starting at my root chakra to raise it up.

And when I started to take that breath and I clenched my perineum, I felt this like dense, like almost physical sensation, this ball of energy and. I started breathing it up and I felt it almost like it was scraping along the walls of something, but this is like an energetic sensation. I was like, whoa, this is like [00:23:00] having a tough time coming up, but it is little by little and I brought it up to the, to the third eye and then the crown, and then it just like exploded into white light, just showering everywhere, and I felt this intense electric vibration in my body and it was absolutely wonderful.

Now, if you don't know, Any of Kundalini work, and this happens to you, you might be scared to shit. That's, I'm so glad that I'm, I'm doing this work and that I'm connected with other people doing the work because I know that I'm not crazy going through this, rather I'm becoming sane finally. Hmm. Yeah. So what he is describing is really what you're describing is really a, um, Well, an enlightenment moment essentially, right?

Physically in the body that that's what's happening. Um, and one of the things too, I want to reflect that what you're, what I hear you sharing a lot too is that our lives [00:24:00] provide plenty of catalysts for our spiritual growth. So even for those of you who are listening, like, okay, well this is the medicine man who does a whole bunch of, you know, yoga and breath work and you know, that kind of thing.

He might be very spiritual, whatever, but. The point that I want to make is really, actually, his life is more of a catalyst than anything else. Yes. I mean, our lives coming into this planet, you know, when people get sick or this happens in your life or whatever. Those are the moments of our spiritual growth.

Not of course, I mean not, um, negating of course any of the other experiences you've had. Mm-hmm. But, um, so I'm curious, um, do you feel that you've discovered your soul's purpose? It's starting to unfold, and I think it's happened little by little. The first step was, um, and Ayahuasca was helping me. Madre was helping me to find my, my true self.

Again. I had become so [00:25:00] disconnected from creativity and from intuition. I actually, at that, at that point, I didn't believe in intuition. That was just indoctrinated into me that that was bullshit. Um, and it took me a few months of medicine work and a lot of deep soul searching to even start playing music again, and then feel that the floodgate start opening up with a lot of inspiration.

But part of that was also learning to trust my intuition and to discern between the egoic voices that are rooted in fear and. God's voice, which is rooted in love, um, and intuition seems to me to be related more to God's voice, and it's just trusting. Trusting that something within you is connected to everything that there is, and knows more than the small, lowercase eye ego mind can possibly know.

And try to control and grasp and like, [00:26:00] if I plan all of this meticulously, it'll work exactly this way. Not the case. Not the case. Um, I'm not sure if I, if I rolled off topic, did I answer the question well, what I hear is you're surrendering to a bigger Yeah. Uh, plan. I guess what I heard you say about your purpose is that Yeah.

You're getting there. Ah, that you know, you're on your path. Thank you. Yeah. You brought, you brought me back to the path of the convo. Yes. Um, And then over, over time, learning to trust my intuition. Uh, a new level of that has been through Aaron AKIs teaching on passions. Like, I love this because he says, you don't come into this world and choose what you're gonna be passionate about.

You're just passionate about a thing. And there's, there's no. There's no choice you can make. You can't say, nah, I'm just not gonna do it. It's gonna be eating you alive from the inside out your whole life. [00:27:00] It's like the call to adventure in the hero's journey archetype. And

our passions are given to us by God, by higher, a higher intelligence. And so if we follow our passions, there's a lot of this like scarcity mindset, western civilization mindset around. Don't follow your passions, don't follow your heart, cuz that's not gonna get you anywhere. It's all about, you know, stepping over other people and looking out for yourself only and all of this kind of shit.

But I've found the opposite to be true. Um, where the more I lean into my heart, my desires and my passion, the more I find out who I am and the more beauty I see in the world and the more beauty I bring into the world. And so long-winded way of saying, um, I know I've known for a long time that my passion that one of them is music.

And so one of my soul's purposes is to heal others. I've, I've recently written like a sole contract with myself, and [00:28:00] it's being a clear channel. To bring healing, forgiveness, and bliss to others through vibration. And that initially felt to me like, yeah, this is what I'm doing with music. And in the last year, I've been feeling the call to speak more and share my experience.

And as I posted my first YouTube video, uh, last week on the channel, I realized, oh, this is, this also operates under that same contract because speaking is vibration. I mean, just being is vibration. So right now it's music and this kind of work that we're doing just talking here. Beautiful. What do you think is the biggest barrier to living your purpose, whether it's an internal one or not?

I think it's all, I think it's only internal, and then that just gets reflected externally. So the barriers are, for me personally, there's [00:29:00] fear. Fear about fear of judgment, which is like the shadow of wanting to be seen. You know, you wanna be seen, but you don't wanna be judged. Um, wanna be seen and you wanna be seen and loved only.

Yes, thank you very much. You wanna be seen and accepted, seen and allowed, um, and just, you just gotta do it anyways. Um, another big obstacle just. Just the systems of the world that we live in, that we were born into, and the fact that now as a 33 year old, I know who I am and I have 33 years of unlearning and unpacking to do from all the indoctrination of, from, from school, from, from the education system, from religion, from western culture and media.

Um, from the news to politics, to just so many layers of it and just [00:30:00] taking one layer off, one layer off, one layer off. And that seems to be like one of the most difficult ones. That's a monster to, to overcome.

Yeah. Yeah. Right. Because and actually what you speak of, right? You're sole contract about sharing through vibration. It's a very aqua Ah, yes. And we're moving into the age of Aquarius. Yeah. Uh, but you know, our current world doesn't necessarily look like that. Well, definitely not. Our political, economic and all the other systems were not created under that sort of paragraph.

Not the mainstream world. So what do you think it means to live with purpose then? , I think it starts with knowing who you are or rather, that could be one of the ways, cuz I'm thinking now of people that don't know who they are spiritually. But maybe still have purpose because they have a family they want to provide for and that brings them joy or just they're, they're following [00:31:00] their passions, whatever that is.

You don't need to be doing the spiritual work consciously. You don't need to be reading spiritual books. You don't need to look like a spiritual person. There could be like a car mechanic in Detroit that is an enlightened being, and he got there just by being, being his self and being true to himself and following his passions.

So, I think that that's, that's what that means. Yeah. Yeah. So being true to yourself, which, you know, when you talk about the indoctrination systems and everything, that's kind of what we're taught not to do in America. Well, I'm gonna caveat this. Okay. In America we're taught to be an individual. So long as, you know, you're economically being providing for the whole.

I suppose we could put it that way. There are other cultures in the world that want you to be a lot more Yeah. In line. But, um, but even then, we're not really taught to truly, you know, understand our [00:32:00] essence. Not at all at the soul level who we truly be.

What piece of advice would you have for someone who maybe is starting to open up to, like the fact that there's more for them in their life, maybe they're opening spiritually, maybe they're going through a big moment, but they're asking themselves the question, the bigger question of their purpose. Um, what would you sort of recommend, or what would you offer for them to do?

First step, first step. Whatever your spiritual background is, even if you don't believe in anything, say a prayer, say a prayer to a higher power, a higher power that is benevolent, that is unconditionally loving, that that just takes away all the judgment, guilt, shame, none of that exists with this higher power.

And just ask, show me the way forward. Show me. Teach me how to, how to, how to be, teach me how to evolve, teach me how to [00:33:00] grow. Um, and if that doesn't resonate with you, my, my next thing I would say is find community, find other people who are going through the same thing.

And find, find a teacher if that, if that resonates with you.

As we close up here, Nick, I just wanna say thank you so much for sharing your wisdom, for showing up and being, sharing your passion and doing exactly what you said you were gonna do, which was served through vibration. Yeah. So, I'm so grateful, uh, to have spent this time. Thank you so much for having me, Cameron.

I really appreciate it, brother, soul. Brother, and for anyone who's looking to connect with Nick and his work, you can find out details in the show notes. Thanks Nick much love.

I'm grateful to share this episode and time with you, my listeners. And I want you to know that our time together does not have to end here. I've also created an online community where spiritually awakening people can receive my support and guidance and connect with others as they discover their [00:35:00] own unique paths to living their soul's purpose.

Look for the link in the show notes to learn more about the path and purpose, community support, connection, and inspiration for your journey. It's all inside.

A special thanks to this week's guest for sharing their journey with us. And I want to thank you for listening to today's episode. My name is Dr. Cameron Martin, and it has been my honor to serve you on your journey of self-discovery. See you next time.
