Location, Location, Location

For the past two weeks, I was fortunate to do some summer traveling. I first flew to Massachusetts for my sister’s wedding. Then, I spent some time with friends in Los Angeles. I have always loved to travel, but on this trip in particular, I spent a lot of time considering the different energies in the areas that I was visiting. For anyone who has traveled, you know that different places hold different energies. The Berkshires feel very different than downtown Santa Monica. Certainly, my home in Maui holds a lot of magical energy. Every place on the planet holds something different.

This got me thinking about just how important location is in astrology. Your birth chart is based upon the time, date, and location of your birth. The map of your life (that is, your horoscope), is based upon your location on the planet the moment you took your first breath. The idea is that you took in all the energy of that time and place in the cosmos and it set an energetic blueprint for your life. This blueprint, we can interpret in your horoscope.

In my practice, I have a special offering known as Solar Return sessions. That’s astro-speak for Birthday sessions. In these readings, I look at a client’s solar return chart to understand what is in store for the year ahead, complete with lessons, challenges, and opportunities. One of the most important factors in this chart is the client’s location at their solar return. Just like in the birth chart, the location on this day sets the energetic backdrop for someone’s personal year.

It can be very surprising how much where someone was located on (and around) their birthday can influence the upcoming personal year. This year, I felt called to move to Maui just days before I experienced my solar return. I could have waited until the beginning of May to move, but something told me I needed to spend my birthday on the island. Upon looking at my own solar return chart, I was shocked (and frankly, pleasantly surprised) to see just how different the chart read with Haiku, HI as my location versus San Diego, CA. This year is destined to be a big one for me personally and if I had been in San Diego still, I think I would have experienced more challenges. Of course, time will tell what really comes to pass but it is fascinating to consider how much a place influences us and what an astrology chart can show us. So, where are you celebrating your birthday this year? It might be more important than you think.

It makes sense; different places in the world hold different energies and they affect us in different ways.

The astrology of the energetic patterns of locations is known as astrocartography. Astrocartography—a form of locational astrology—is essentially about how the planets (in your own personal chart) affect the way you experience the energies in specific locations on the earth. Are you looking to move? Are you looking to go on a special trip? Do you wonder why you are so drawn to different places? Are you feeling called to relocate? Does your heart feel like it belongs somewhere in particular? Are you trying to make sense of what you are dealing with in your current location? Astrocartography is a tool that can shed light on these types of questions. These sessions can provide a holistic understanding of the places in your life as they relate to relationships, work, study, pleasure, and even soul advancement. Based on my own chart, San Diego had a lot to teach me about hard work, getting back to basics, and building a new life. The Hawaiian Islands hold completely new opportunities for me, especially as it relates to career development and emotional security.

There is a reason you are where you are. Where you are is always where you are meant to be. Being able to understand it, though, can be very powerful. Every place on earth holds a unique energy. How you experience the energetic patterns of these places is as unique as you are. They say that three things are important when searching for a new home: location, location, location. Perhaps it is even more important when considering your soul’s place in the cosmos.

Aloha,

Cam
